What's The Diff: Probiotics vs. Digestive Enzymes

· ·

Let’s face it, gut health is overwhelming. As much as we wish, there is not a one size fits all approach to having a healthy gut, which is why self exploration is our golden rule. Every body (and stomach) have completely different needs, so it is important to choose supplementation based on what’s best for YOU. We always aim to make the subject of gut health a little easier for all our “my girls”, so today we’re breaking down the difference between two of our most loved (and needed) gut-supporting supplements: probiotics vs. digestive enzymes.

Fun Fact: Both probiotics and digestive enzymes can be found in certain foods that we eat- but most of the time it is not enough which is why they are so popular in supplemental form. They both help aid the digestive process but have very different functions.

The Perks of Probiotics

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that live in your gut, repopulate it with good bacteria to fight the bad and add balance to your overall well-being including your digestion, mental health, energy levels, skin health, brain function, sleep patterns, & more!  They can be found in yogurt, fermented foods, and dietary supplements like our beloved Gut Goals.

Benefits of Probiotics:

  • Immune system support
  • Eases digestive discomfort
  • Promotes regularity
  • Helps support weight management
  • May regulate mood

The Run-Down on Digestive Enzymes:

Digestive enzymes are non-living proteins our bodies naturally produce that play a heavy role in how our bodies break down and absorb the foods we eat. . Some of the awesome enzymes include: Amylase which breaks down carbohydrates into simple sugars, Protease which breaks down proteins into amino acids and Lipase which helps break down fats into fatty acids. In many cases, our bodies don’t make enough of these proteins which can result in poor digestion leading to uncomfortable  gas and bloating after eating *Cue the perfect opportunity to incorporate a digestive enzyme supplement like Eat Your Heart Out into your daily wellness routine..

Benefits of Digestive enzymes:

  • Help your body absorb the proper nutrients from the food you consume
  • Help prevent and ease post-meal bloat and gas
  • Speeds up digestion
  • Reduces feelings of lingering fullness
  • May improve food intolerances

Feel like you have a better grasp on gut health? To put it in short, get yourself on a probiotic plan if you’re looking for extra support in digestion, immunity and your overall well-being. Lean into digestive enzymes if you’re on the struggle bus of slow digestion, stubborn bloating/gas, & feeling icky after many of your meals- they are truly a life saver for all of these issues and MORE.  If you feel like you’ve been blessed with all of the above, don’t sweat it sis- both digestive enzymes and probiotics work wonders together & give your gut the goodness it needs to feel it’s best from the inside out.
