How to Write Affirmations You'll Actually Stick To

· ·

"Affirmations" may feel like a buzz word lately, but we’re here to flip that narrative. When thinking about your everyday routine, it's so important to recognize the positive impact that good, believable, and thought-driven affirmations can have on your life.

In case you're unfamiliar, affirmations are the act of affirming emotional support or encouragement, whether it is written, spoken, or both.

I'm sure we've almost all written affirmations in the past that end up forgotten along the way, which is why the gals behind My Girl have rounded up our top 5 ways to write affirmations that you can actually stick to.

1. Ask Yourself WHAT & WHY

This is the ultimate first step in writing kick ass affirmations! You need to look inside yourself and figure out what is really important to you specifically. What do you WANT? What do you feel needs a change? What do you LOVE about yourself? These are questions you need to ask yourself, like really ask yourself, and reflect. My go-to is to sit and reflect in a journal or piece of paper so you can really get clear what you truly love about yourself and areas where you can improve.

2. Really FEEL Them Within

This is piggybacking on the first bullet point, because it is THAT important. Make sure your affirmations light you up inside and make you feel that tingling-in-your-stomach sensation. When you're writing them they should get you excited, inspired, and energized for the future.

3. Make Them Believable

Making realistic and believable affirmations is another sure way to stick to them. Starting small is always better than writing something that seems too big to achieve from the get-go. Instead, start with a small, realistic change that you can get behind everyday. Ex: "I am worthy of a job that I love."

4. Write Them in the Present Tense

When you write out your affirmations and say them daily, make sure they're in the present tense. Even if it's something that you haven't achieved yet, it's important to frame it as your current truth. This ensures that you're vibrating at the highest frequency to attract that abundance into your life. For example, “I release all doubts and insecurities about myself.”

5. Be Positive

It’s as simple as that, each affirmation should trigger positivity! Disregard using words with a negative tone and always keep your affirmations bursting with good energy. Maintaining positivity should be simplified by choosing affirmations that resonate and align with who you want to become. For example, if you are trying to get rid of excess negativity in your life an affirmation could be: “I allow myself to release things not meant for me and welcome those that are!”

Affirmations are such a useful tool to elevate mood, life changes, and your overall well-being. It’s important to note that being consistent and reciting or reading these affirmations daily will help you maximize their benefits! Follow these tips to ensure you’re creating affirmations that you’ll want to live by each and every day.
